Don’t give up on Facebook

Many authors dismiss Facebook, but it’s still (and will continue to be) a powerful place to connect with readers. Yes, the visibility stinks, but there are a few ways to get more exposure:

1. Use both your personal profile and author page.
Your author page is important for ads, credibility, and official updates. Your personal profile often gets more natural engagement, so use it to build connections and showcase your personality.

2. Post more than announcements.
Don’t limit your posts to cover reveals, preorder links, and release days. Post your progress on an ongoing basis – a scene you’re stuck on, the title you almost used, a trope you’re playing with, or a research rabbit hole you fell into.

3. Ask questions.
Easy questions do best on Facebook.
“What’s your last 5-star read?”
“Do you prefer first person or third person POV?”

“Illustrated covers or real people?”

4. Use simple video.
Mix it up with some video posts. You don’t need perfect lighting or a planned script. A quick and casual video about who your book is for, what you’re writing today, or why you love a certain trope can help readers feel more connected to you.

5. Stay consistent with your content.
Random posting will create random results. Choose a few regular content buckets (your writing life, your genre, reader questions, books you love, behind-the-scenes moments) and rotate through them.

The algorithm is doing its best to decide what to show to whom, but it needs consistency and signals.

IF you decide to make Facebook a part of your marketing efforts, these 5 tips should help.

Sincerely,

Alessandra
